The procedure outlined above should
be followed. If you have been accepted on a full-time program you will be required
to pay your fees in full before a letter for visa purposes can be issued to you.
If you are unable to remit the full tuition fees, the college will accept a deposit
of £1000 as part payment, provided you undertake to pay the balance before you commence
your studies. Upon receipt of your tuition fees or deposit, you will need a visa
or appropriate consular letter when applying for a visa.
International Students Aleady in the United Kingdom
You can apply by post or in person, by making an appointment with the Admissions
Department of the college.
Student Visa Extensions
You can extend your student visa through applying for Further Leave to Remain. You
should be able to provide proof that you intend to remain in the UK for the sole
purpose of futher course of study. Other requirements are that you have successfully
completed your original course of study and you are capable of supporting your stay
in the UK financially. You should apply for a student visa extension before your
previous student visa has expired.
Before Arrival in the UK
Depending on your country of origin you may or may not need a student visa
or entry certificate to enter Britain. For example, visas are required from citizens
of Ghana, Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Nigeria, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Please check
with your Embassy/High Commission if a visa is required well before you make your
travel arrangements. Visit the UK
Visa website for more information.
Other Commonwealth citizens who do not need a tourist visa might find it useful
to obtain a student visa, as it will ease their entry into Britain on arrival. Most
airlines will also need to see that you have acceptable immigration documents as
they can be heavily fined for carrying passengers without the right to enter Britain.
To obtain a student visa you will be required to produce the following documents
to the Entry Clearance Officer at the British Embassy or High Commission:
- A valid passport
- Evidence of enrolment onto a full time course of study (at least 16 hours daytime
study per week) at a British school, College or University
- A certificate to prove that you possess the minimum academic qualifications for
your chosen course of study
- Evidence of your ability to meet the cost of your tuition and living expenses in
Britain for the duration of your course.
The Entry Clearance Officer will also need to be satisfied that you intend to return
home upon completion of your studies. Students are strongly advised not to attempt
to enter Britain on a visitor’s (tourist) visa with a view to applying for
a change of status at a later date.
Arrival in the UK
Be sure to carry on your person the Certificate of Enrolment and also evidence of
financial support or sponsorship, as the Immigration Officer at your port of entry
may wish to see them. You should also bring sufficient cash or travel cheques in
sterling or in dollars to meet your expenses on arrival, such as transport, meals
and temporary accommodation (say £100 in cash and supply of traveller’s cheques).
If you have not reserved accommodation, we suggest you to arrive in London during
normal office hours on a weekday, and report to the college between 9.00 am-4.30
pm to seek assistance in finding accommodation.
Immigration Regulations
Once you have been allowed into the country, make sure you understand the conditions
attached to your stay, ie. the period you are allowed to remain and restrictions
on taking up employment. If you are in any doubt, please present your passport to
the college and ask for assistance. For further information visit the UK Home Office website.
